<p>Mike Sherman Productions has signed a three-year contract with The Global Broadcasting Company, Inc. to begin broadcasting “On the Mike with Mike Sherman”, beginning in January 2009 on Total Hip Hop Television across western and eastern Europe including Germany, Austria, Luxembourg, Lichtenstein, Northern Italy, Switzerland and the Baltic states, with more countries being added throughout the year. The ultimate reach of its audience will be approximately 10 million subscribers across 16 countries with a total available subscriber population of 80 million. </p>
<p>This is a breakthrough achievement for Mike Sherman Productions as penetrating the international market has been a big goal for the company since the inception of the show 3 years ago. “One of my major ambitions has been to get international distribution for the show via both TV and the Internet,” said Mike Sherman, creator and presenter of the show. “I’m very excited that, in the new year, we will finally be broadcasting across the world.”</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Southwest Airlines confirmed today that it has submitted a bid that would allow the airline to assume ATA Airlines&#8217; rights to operate at New York&#8217;s LaGuardia (LGA) Airport through a purchase of ATA Airlines. The bid was submitted in connection with the publicly announced auction process in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Indianapolis and consistent with the Federal Aviation Administration&#8217;s recent rule clarification regarding LaGuardia&#8217;s slots.</p>
<p>Southwest is working with ATA Airlines with respect to the terms and conditions of the bid. The bid does not contemplate operating ATA, but it is intended to allow Southwest to acquire the LGA slots.</p>
<p>The $7.5 million bid seeks to obtain the rights to 14 slots at LaGuardia that are currently held by ATA Airlines, which filed for bankruptcy protection on April 2, 2008. Those 14 slots would permit an operation of up to seven daily roundtrip flights at LaGuardia. Southwest would not acquire, as a part of its bid, any aircraft, facilities, or employees of ATA.</p>
<p>&#8220;It is our intent, with the successful conclusion of the transaction, to make plans to initiate service from LaGuardia,&#8221; said Southwest&#8217;s Chairman, President, and CEO Gary Kelly. &#8220;Even in this volatile environment, we have said we must monitor the competitive landscape and take advantage of prudent market opportunities.&#8221;</p>
<p>The bankruptcy court must approve the bid and a reorganization plan for ATA Airlines before Southwest could gain the rights to ATA&#8217;s LaGuardia slots.</p>
<p>Once the acquisition is finalized, Southwest will work with the Federal Aviation Administration and the Port Authority of New York to commence service at LaGuardia, including acquisition of the necessary airport gate(s) and facilities. Details on the commencement of service or the cities that would be served by Southwest from LaGuardia have not yet been determined.</p>

<p>Businesses across the UK are off-setting the costs of going green by selling the surplus power generated by their wind-turbines to Opus Energy. Opus Energy then uses this power to supply their customers, meaning that the proportion of cleaner energy Opus supplies to the UK is increasing. </p>
<p>Three facts about micro-generation:</p>
<p>•	The cost of installing a 6kW wind turbine at a premise is around £18,500 after available grants<br />
•	At a national average wind speed (6m/s) at current electricity prices, this turbine could start to ‘pay for itself’ in its seventh year<br />
•	The smallest wind turbine installed by Eagle Power is 3.5 meters in diameter, with 2.5 kW output</p>
<p>Eagle Power, the wind-turbine installation company, has seen numbers of wind turbines installed double in the last year. Owner and manager John Gumbley said, “All of our customers are keen to know that they can earn ‘payback’ from their turbine. Being able to earn money from the power you generate, beyond what you use to run your property, makes green energy an attractive option.” </p>
<p>Forty percent of Eagle Power’s customers are businesses looking to improve their green credentials and simultaneously cut the cost of their energy bills. Having installed a wind-turbine, Eagle Power advises it’s customers to team up with Opus Energy to top up their balance sheets with the income from selling their extra power.</p>
<p>John said, “We recommend our customers to Opus Energy because they make it really easy for businesses to start selling their excess energy. You can talk to their dedicated customer services team directly in the UK who will work with you to ease the accreditation process. As well as being friendly and well informed about micro-generation.” </p>
<p>Valpy Fitzgerald, Risk Manager at Opus Energy said, “We are delighted to be working with Eagle Power to encourage micro-generation in the UK. With diminishing natural resources and the increasing price of energy, wind-turbines can provide an excellent solution to minimising both environment and business costs. Those businesses that do take the initiative to install turbines can look to buffer the effect of rising economic costs by selling back their surplus power to the Grid.” </p>
<p>For the months when wind speeds are lower, many businesses also choose to have Opus Energy as their electricity supplier. This way, Opus customers can off-set the cost of energy they use from the grid, with profits from the energy they sell back through micro-generation, reducing their overall annual bills. </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>On November 25th, 2008, Daniel Belanger, a New York-based social entrepreneur, digital designer and accomplished outdoorsman, will set out on a solo expedition to photograph the Earth&#8217;s most remote wildlife. Dubbed &#8220;The Wild Image Project,&#8221; the carefully-planned journey will produce over 100,000 photographic images that will be shared with the public through books, multimedia projects and speaking engagements promoting the preservation of endangered species and natural settings.</p>
<p>The two-year expedition will be primarily undertaken by kayak, including a challenging 350 mile open-ocean crossing from Argentina to the Falkland Islands. A second phase of the project will cover a route starting in the Bonin Islands and continuing to Japan, the Kuril Islands and finally the Aleutian Islands. A third phase will cover more southern hemisphere destinations including: South Georgia, Tristan Da Cunha, Prince Edward, Crozet, Kerguelen, Heard, Macquarie, and Auckland.</p>
<p>An expert outdoorsman with fifteen years of extreme weather camping and survival experience, Belanger, age 34, has spent considerable time physically preparing to meet the challenges of this unprecedented convergence of art, adventure and activism.</p>
<p>&#8220;The goal of the Wild Image Project is to educate the public on the existence of exotic and endangered species that play an essential role in complex ecosystems that are outside the general populations&#8217; consciousness,&#8221; said Belanger. </p>
<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve traveled around the world and seen some of the most amazing sights. My objective is to motivate others and alter their perspective on global issues by aesthetically presenting information and ideas that stimulate engagement, involvement and transformation.&#8221;</p>
<p>Belanger is not a newcomer to the world of social engagement. He is the founder of the New York-based House of Jimmu, an organization that promotes awareness on the crucial importance that good nutrition and nature play in the lives of children and their future as adults. He is also the founder of Ibrido, an online magazine and blog that serves as an electronic platform for positive social change. </p>
<p>Images from the Wild Image Project will be showcased in several multi-media photo essays and books that are designed to inspire viewers to raise their consciousness about the future. Images will predominately be of wildlife, with special focus on endangered species and difficult-to-photograph subjects in their natural habitat. </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Surround Technologies has announced that The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City has utilized its development tool, Accelerator for Visual LANSA, to create an internally managed Ticket Sales and Management application, now in use on its website, www.MoMA.org.</p>
<p>Previously, visitors booking tickets on-line to the famed MoMA were, like with so many outsourced ticketing operations, paying oppressive Service Charge fees, up to $10 per ticket. Since part of the Museum’s charter is to make Art more accessible, the IT Team looked to eliminate these fees that neither served their customers nor the Museum. The challenge of developing the internal ticketing system was magnified by an impending deadline before a long-term contract renewal with the outsourced vendor was due.</p>
<p>&#8220;We were able to complete this project in a quarter of the time because we were using Accelerator . . . I would definitely recommend it to others,&#8221; offers Ramakrishna &#8220;Sudhi&#8221; Sudheendra, Project Manager for Application Development at MoMA, explaining how they accomplished the aggressive goal on their IBM System i running LANSA.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Article 13, the leading corporate social responsibility consultancy, has released a feature on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) which celebrates its 60th year in late 2008. The feature takes an in-depth look at the Declaration and the human rights it supports and profiles a recent review of human rights and business, as well as a framework for facilitating improvement, produced by Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Human Rights, John Ruggie.</p>
<p>This resource seeks to emphasise the importance of factoring human rights into responsible business practice by reminding readers of the myriad of issues related to human rights and providing best practice examples of businesses improving performance through human rights initiatives.</p>
<p>The UDHR, developed after the Second World War, was the first global statement of the inherent dignity and quality of all human beings. It provides a common global standard and is effectively a contract between all governments and their peoples. Whilst not all governments have become parties to human rights treaties they have all adopted the UDHR. It also forms the basis of human rights law and is itself based on the core values of non-discrimination, equality, fairness and universality.</p>
<p>A full breakdown of the rights incorporated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights can be viewed on Article 13’s human rights CSR expert view. What becomes evident through reading these rights is that many of them are flouted in various parts of the world, often closer to home than we think. Moreover, despite the efforts of individual organisations, these are too often the exception. Ruggie’s latest report proposes a framework for business and human rights comprising three core principles: the State duty to protect against human rights abuses by third parties, including business; the corporate responsibility to respect human rights; and the need for more effective access to remedies.</p>
<p>As a signatory of the UNGC, Article 13 upholds the principles related to human rights and works to inform others in its networks of the need for proactive action. The organisations profiled in the best practice CSR case studies of this human rights feature are, therefore, other UNGC signatories who are successfully tackling human rights and achieving business benefits as a result of their efforts. Issues covered in these case studies include human trafficking, institutionalised discrimination, employment opportunities for women in the developing world and nutrition.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Convergys Corporation (NYSE: CVG), a global leader in relationship management, announced today Intervoice [R] Voice Portal 6.0 (IVP 6) and the introduction of its next-generation application creation environment – Interaction Composer. With IVP 6, clients can now create highly personalized speech solutions, leveraging a set of rules and policies that can be easily constructed by integrating with the Convergys Dynamic Decisioning Solution. With this release, Convergys empowers enterprises to think differently about the customer experience by introducing a voice portal platform designed to facilitate the development of multimodal applications that enable mobile self-service.</p>
<p>For the past eight years, the number of mobile phone subscribers has grown globally at an average rate of 24 percent year over year(a). “For enterprises competing for market share and looking to improve customer satisfaction ratings, having the ability to use multimodal applications to enable self-service for mobile device users will be a differentiator,” said Daniel Hong, Lead Analyst, Datamonitor. “When looking at the evolution of phone-based self-service technologies, it began with touch-tone, progressed to include speech, and now the next phrase: multimodal enablement. This next stage in the evolution of phone-based self-service includes personalization and takes into account the proliferation of mobile devices.”</p>
<p>Interaction Composer</p>
<p>This latest version of IVP provides immediate and universal access to the exploding audience of mobile device users. Interaction Composer is an Eclipse-based Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for building, deploying, and managing robust applications with a drag &#038; drop components and extensibility framework that enable both call center programmers and IT developers to quickly develop complex voice or multimodal applications. Interaction Composer enables the development of applications that allow callers to perform tasks simultaneously or interrupt tasks with new requests, and then resume tasks where they left off. Interaction Composer application runtime leverages the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) specification for State Chart eXtensible Markup Language (SCXML). Intervoice uses SCXML as an extended application notation that enables combining call control functionality with voice interactions and mobile phone screen pops, as well as other types of message-oriented interactions such as SMS, to provide an information-rich, multichannel and multimodal contact center experience for the caller.</p>
<p>For enterprises with legacy IVR applications, Interaction Composer also enables the migration of legacy IVR applications to open-standards applications that can include a speech option for more efficient self-service calls. Interaction Composer allows developers to move easily to the IVP platform by greatly reducing the risk and costs that can normally be associated when upgrading technology.</p>
<p>Enhanced Personalization</p>
<p>With IVP 6, clients can also create highly personalized applications by leveraging Convergys Dynamic Decisioning Solution, a software product that includes both a set of tools and a policy engine. When building a speech application with IVP, developers can create a set of policies or rules that can trigger personalized interactions for end users based on existing customer data. The use of Dynamic Decisioning Solution with IVP brings an enhanced level of customer service by enabling applications to automatically respond to changes in a customer’s profile in real time improving each customer’s self-service experience. The combination of these products enables enterprises to reduce time to market and costs associated with deploying personalized self-service applications.</p>
<p>Intervoice Voice Portal 6.0 is offered in three solution packages to meet diverse business-needs: Voice Portal Express, Voice Portal Enterprise, and Voice Portal Enterprise Pro. Convergys Dynamic Decisioning Solution is available as an add-on component to either Enterprise or Enterprise Pro for enhanced personalization and policy management.</p>
<p>Intervoice Voice Portal Enterprise Pro includes Interaction Composer and the outbound notification capabilities of Advanced Notification Gateway. First introduced with IVP 5.0, Advanced Notification Gateway (ANG) is typically leveraged as a solution to reduce calls to the contact center. The primary mechanism for sending SMS, email, fax, and initiating outbound voice calls within the IVP framework, ANG enables end-users to receive real-time, outbound communications. Originating from a self-service application, this solution proactively alerts end-users to important updates, issues, and other information.</p>
<p>The award-winning Intervoice Voice Portal platform has a standard-based web-inspired architecture including server-side (SCXML engine) and client-side (voice and call control browsers) components, that can be deployed on a single server or in a distributed configuration.
