UNICEF Representatives Available to Discuss Earthquake Relief Efforts in Haiti

Published January 13th, 2010

UNICEF is providing immediate support to the victims of the unfolding humanitarian crisis following the earthquake that hit Haiti on Tuesday. UNICEF is on the ground, providing emergency services and supplies to address the urgent needs of affected children and families in the wake of the devastating earthquake that measured 7.3 on the Richter scale as well as its related aftershocks.
Expert estimates suggest that 46 per cent of Haiti’s nearly 10 million people are under 18 years of age. The special needs of children must be factored in at the very outset of relief efforts. UNICEF is working to provide clean water and sanitation, medical supplies, therapeutic food, emergency shelter and protection services.

UNICEF spokespeople in the region and from the UNICEF Canada office are currently available for English and French interviews with Canadian media.
