Las Vegas Charities Mark World AIDS Day
Published November 26th, 2008
Stop and think. That is what Las Vegas-based HIV/AIDS charities Aid for AIDS of Nevada (AFAN) and Golden Rainbow are asking Las Vegas to do this World AIDS Day. The organizations, along with the Nevada State Health Division, are marking the day with a fundraising dinner to re-launch a new educational website aimed at helping to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS.
For the past three years, AFAN, Golden Rainbow and the Nevada State Health Division have worked cooperatively on a media campaign called “THINK,” designed to raise awareness and help prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS. Now this World AIDS Day, Monday, December 1, the organizations will be holding “Think. Learn. Live.” at NOVE Italiano inside the Palms Hotel Casino Resort in Las Vegas. The event is designed as an educational evening filled with dinner, guest speakers, live jazz and more.
Doors open at 4:30 p.m., and the event continues until 8 p.m. Single seats are available for $30; tables for four are $120; and tables for eight at $240. RSVP at thinklasvegas.org. With every donation, the THINK campaign comes closer to becoming a year-round, mass media campaign that will further the education and awareness of HIV/AIDS. Event sponsors include The Apothecary, Dunkin’ Donuts, Gilead, The 9 Group, NOVE, Q Vegas, Studio Out and Virgen Advertising.
Part of the evening will feature the re-launch of the website thinklasvegas.org, which has been completely redesigned to be more interactive and informative. For example, the site will have an online quiz that tests visitors AIDS knowledge; host a wide range of local and global AIDS related news stories that can be updated instantly; contain an education page where users can link to various educational AIDS sites. A video section will link to AIDS related videos that target a variety of individuals. Users will also be able to see upcoming AIDS events such as the AIDS Walk and “Ribbon of Life” and find out to how to participate or sponsor the event.
THINK was originally conceived by Steinbeck Communications with original art design by Virgen Advertising, which also designed the new website.
