CONTROVERSIAL ARTIST TO DEBUT NEW BLOOD PAINTINGS IN NEW YORK CITY

New York, NY - Renowned Blood Artist Jordan Eagles debuts his NEW BLOOD series in NYC, featuring life-size works and a new technique of “aged blood.”
Merge Gallery is pleased to present “New Blood,” the new solo exhibition by contemporary, New York-based artist JORDAN EAGLES.
Jordan Eagles preserves blood on clear and white Plexiglas within layers of resin, suspending the organic medium’s fluid forms under the resin’s glass-like surface. For nearly a decade, Eagles has been using and preserving blood in his multi-dimensional works as a method to explore themes of regeneration and metaphysical connections between body, spirit and nature.
“New Blood” features a new technique—gradations of “aged blood,” preserved in varying stages of decomposition that create deep black fields in stunning contrast to the medium’s rich, translucent reds. The blood’s lucent properties retain and vibrate light, illuminating pools of reds, blacks and sealed-in protein air-bubbles. The results are remarkably luminous as the blood permanently maintains its natural colors and textures. The compositions often resemble Rorschach inkblot test patterns, magnified cellular details and large-scale photographic images of planetary bodies, dark matter, galactic bullet clusters and bullet wounds.
Eagles also currently has solo exhibitions on view in San Francisco, CA (Mark Wolfe Contemporary, through March 21, 2008) and Atlanta, GA (Krause Gallery through April 28, 2008) and has work on view at the Amistad Center at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art in Hartford, CT. NEW BLOOD is Eagles’ second solo exhibition at Merge Gallery and Eagles’ fourth solo exhibition in New York City. Eagles’ work has been featured in The New York Times, Village Voice, Architectural Digest, San Francisco Chronicle, SF Weekly, Miami New Times, Philadelphia Weekly, Baltimore City Paper, and FOX News in Hartford and San Francisco.
