U.S. Art Fund Pays Record HK$30.6 Million for Ming Dynasty Jar

Published November 28th, 2007

U.S. art-investment fund Xiling Group paid a record HK$30.6 million ($3.9 million) for a Ming Dynasty blue-and-white jar at Christie’s International’s Hong Kong art auction.

The jar, which features 16 boys playing in a Chinese garden, was secured by New York-based art dealer John Berwald after a two-minute competition with a phone bidder. The price, which includes commission, is the most paid for a porcelain from the Jiajing era (1522-1566), according to Christie’s. Berwald is Xiling’s art adviser.
