1.25 Million Dollars Worth Of Original Glamour Photography And Other Hollywood Art Sold By Profiles
Published November 16th, 2007
Calabasas, CA, November 14, 2007—For the first time in public auction history, over $1.25 million dollars worth of Hollywood glamour photography, much of it of “Pre-code,” and vintage movie posters were sold at Profiles in History, the world’s leading dealer of authentic Hollywood artifacts. Fine art photographs featuring history’s most legendary actresses including Greta Garbo, Joan Crawford, Jean Harlow, Carole Lombard, Clara Bow, Marlene Dietrich and Louise Brooks − the greatest assemblage of its kind − shot by legends in their own right including George Hurrell, Clarence Sinclair Bull and Ruth Harriet Louise and posters from films including My Man Godfrey, The Wolf Man, Cabin in the Sky, Casablanca, True to the Navy, Unholy Three, Dr. X and Lawrence of Arabia contributed to the record-setting two-day total.
“Hollywood pre-code glamour photography of the 20s and 30s is being embraced by the Fine Art world,” said Joe Maddalena, owner of Profiles in History. “It began to spark their interest a few years ago and now these masterpieces and the portrait photographers who shot them have taken their rightful place alongside other great contemporary artists of the 20th Century.”
This was Profiles in History’s 29th auction of Hollywood memorabilia. Their next auction, December 13 and 14 will feature several of Hollywood’s most recognizable movie icons—A full-scale Endo Skeleton from Terminator 2 (Expected sale price: $100,000 or more) and a full-scale Tyrannosaurus Rex head screen-used in the science fiction classic Jurassic Park (Expected sale price: $60,000 or more). Both of these amazing items were created and built for the screen by Stan Winston Studios and would make The Perfect Holiday Gift for the movie fan or collector who has everything!
